Update

Since it's been some time since I've posted anything on my Linux experiment, I'll do that this morning.

I have started using Evolution to handle the work that Outlook does in MS. It's a basic email, contacts, and task program with very few bells and whistles. I first tried to set it up over a month ago. I found I could get it to receive mail (I used a Gmail account for the experiment) but I couldn't get it to send mail. I attempted numerous things but to no avail. Finally I just set it aside as I was out of time to fool with it.

This weekend, I took up the task again to make it work. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it worked just fine. I had made no change to it, yet it received and sent mail perfectly.
